KUWAIT, Feb 17 (KUNA) -- Once privatized, Kuwait Airways will immediately seek to modernize its fleet of aircraft, said a senior official of the national carrier here Wednesday.
"The corporation is now undergoing a stage of preparation for the privatization. So, once the process is finished, the priority will be given for modernizing the aircraft," Khalid al-Neshmi, deputy chief of the corporation's ground services department, told KUNA. Speaking on the sidelines of an annual meeting of airlines working in Kuwait, he quoted Minister of Communication Mohammed Al-Busairi as reassuring that the carrier's planes would undergo maintenance. Concerning the meeting, he said it mainly aims to give the opportunity for the airlines' representatives to share views with Kuwait Airport officials on air services. It is in the interest of travelers, authorities and airlines that there should be coordination and cooperation among all quarters involved, the official said. He announced that the number of incoming and outgoing passengers had risen by 13 percent in 2009 compared to 2008. - Kuna
