MoE looking at ‘procedures’ to privatise 30 public schools |

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 28: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has started studying the necessary procedures for the privatization of 30 public schools in line with the directives of Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs and State Minister for Housing and Development Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Fahd
, who is keen on activating the role of the private sector in developing the educational process in the country, says Undersecretary Tomadher Al-Sedarawi. Speaking at a press conference recently after presiding over the first meeting on the project, Al-Sedarawi explained the proposal will be implemented in coordination with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and Private Schools Union. She revealed there are 12 educational development policies included in the government’s program, which were distributed to various sectors in the ministry for implementation. Al-Sedarawi disclosed she is in charge of three projects, in addition to activating the role of the Higher Council for Education to develop the public educational sector and ensure the autonomy of its systems. She has formed four executive teams to carry out the development plan of the ministry in the first year. Confirming the assistant undersecretaries have been briefed on the projects in the government program, Al-Sedarawi stated the assistant undersecretaries have been informed about the projects related to their sectors and the budget required for the implementation. Al-Sedarawi added she also heads a team tasked to follow up the implementation of the government program and submit a report in this regard to the minister every three months. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has formed a committee to study the possibility of extending the academic year for the primary, intermediate and secondary stages, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting Undersecretary Tumadher Al-Sedarawi. Speaking to reporters after the awarding ceremony for outstanding 12th grade students in schools at the Capital Educational Zone, Al-Sedarawi explained the committee will forward results of the study to the Cabinet for discussion. Asked about the delayed announcement of the results of interviews with nominees for vacant general director posts, Al-Sedarawi said Minister Mudhi Al-Humoud is currently on official trip abroad and the names will be approved upon the minister’s return to Kuwait. On the vacancies in the educational zones, Al-Sedarawi asserted the ministry will soon publish announcements in this regard, conduct interviews and issue decisions to fill the vacant posts. Talking about absenteeism among students before and after holidays, Al-Sedarwi warned the ministry is keen on enforcing the regulations and bylaws without any exemption. She urged the parents of students to coordinate with the school administrators and advise their children to strict comply with school regulations. She added the ministry spares no effort in providing a suitable educational environment for the students. Meanwhile, Abdulrahman Shaikhan Al-Farsi - sponsor of the awarding ceremony - appealed to all the ministries in the country to support the educational sector. He said he is keen on honoring the outstanding students to encourage them to continue their excellent academic performance and to serve as an example to their peers. - Arab Times
