KUWAIT, March 8 (KUNA) -- Sheikha Fareeha Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurated here Monday Kuwait's national celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the International Women's Day.
In a keynote speech at the two-day event entitled: "Gulf Media Women... Professional Reality and Mental Image", Sheikha Fareeha acclaimed the celebration as a good occasion to reaffirm women's rights and to buttress their demands for a key role to play in their society. Mentioning Gulf women in particular, she said they have unequivocal and articulate marks on history, having been long standing side by side with their life partners for the building of a conscious and aware society. Although Gulf women have affirmed themselves in media, social and political areas, they are still having many obstacles ahead in some professional domains, she said. She urged female media figures to play a more active role in highlighting the true image of Gulf women by means of revamping societal awareness and professional performance, Sheikha Fareeha added. The Kuwaiti celebration of the International Women's Day features several dialogue sessions, mainly focusing on ways and means of shoring up women's media role and boosting their available opportunities. Female thinkers, intellectuals, writers and media figures from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, and Kuwait are attending the event. - Kuna
