KUWAIT, March 16 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Airways voiced here Tuesday welcome of meetings with Iraqi Airways' officials, categorically denying any prior knowledge of an ongoing visit by an Iraqi delegation to Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti national carrier made the welcome in a press release to KUNA to comment on a recent local news report suggesting that its officials had declined to meet their Iraqi counterpart to discuss unresolved issues between both airlines. Out of clarification of facts in order to preclude unpredictable exaggeration, the Kuwaiti carrier said: "We learnt the Iraqi delegation's visit to Kuwait only through this newspaper." However, it made it certain that its officials would meet the Iraqi guests later in the day to reflect on a mechanism for resolving outstanding issues between the Kuwaiti and Iraqi carriers. The Iraqi government and its airways owe the Kuwait national carrier USD 1.3 billion, not to mention accumulated interest. A Kuwaiti local newspaper quoted on Tuesday General Manager of Iraqi Airways Kefah Hussein as alleging that Kuwaiti Airways officials had refused to meet him and his party. - Kuna
