KUWAIT: The amount of 'acid rain' falling in Kuwait has not exceeded safety limits, according to prominent local meteorologist Dr. Saleh Al-Anjari. Dr. Al-Anjari was responding to media claims that acid rain is expected to hit the country
within the next few days. "While there's a good chance of rain within the next couple of days, it will be in the form of limited spring showers, with no acid rain expected," said the senior meteorologist. Acid rain is created by the emissions from factories and other polluting sources combining with rainwater after reaching a certain concentration level in the atmosphere. The reaction causes sees the resulting rains containing high concentrations of the toxic chemicals, bringing negative effects for soil, plants and even human health. Though they have increased over the past few years, levels of acid rain pollution are still below safe limits," Dr. Al-Anjari stressed. The prominent local meteorologist also revealed that the high levels of allergies due to the recent changeable and dusty weather are expected to disappear by the beginning of April. - Kuwait Times
