KUWAIT, April 6 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Municipality is doing its utmost to dispose of waste as per capita waste generation in Kuwait is 1.4 kg per day
, Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Fadhel Al-Safar said here Tuesday. The remark was made by the minister in a keynote speech at a just-started international conference and exhibition on waster management. "Kuwait Municipality is doing everything it could to spare our country the perils of waste by finding safe ways to get rid of its effects," he said. "The Municipality is also warning the public not to generate so much waste or to encroach upon nature. We cannot work alone as concerted efforts of citizens and residents living on this good soil are required," he added. Environmental problems and relevant impacts on humanity, which are produced by this major industrial advancement and human needs of entertainment means, have led to climate change and new diseases, the minister lamented. He urged all world countries to work together to alleviate the aftershocks of environmental risk and perils. For his part, Kuwait Society of Engineers Member Mansour Al-Murri, also addressing the three-day gathering, said Kuwait has a high waste generation; having exceeded one million ton of waste in 2007, up 1.5 percent over 2006. He said Kuwait Municipality spends roughly KD 60 million to collect, treat and dispose of waste. - Kuna
