Arab radio forum commences in Kuwait |

KUWAIT, May 11 (KUNA) -- The Forum of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) kick started here Tuesday under the joint auspices of Kuwaiti Minister of Oil and Minister of Information Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah
and ASBU Director General Salaheddine Maaoui. Addressing the two-day forum, Chairman of the GCC Union of Art and Media Production Directors Yussif Al-Amiri said Kuwait is intended to restore its position as a beacon for Arab culture, media and arts. He vowed that in the coming period there would be distinguished media and major media projects. He added that this year youth would be given a top priority by means of establishing a bank for youth media projects to be adopted by the union and ASBU, together with a cultural and media seminar to be held on Wednesday. He noted that Cable TV Company had been recently launched with a huge capital and would start operating soon. For his part, the ASBU director general said the meeting would be a good opportunity for the conferees to mull Arab media production. He said the issue of youth-oriented Arab media would be deeply considered by a group of experts during at a meeting to be held on the sidelines of the forum on Wednesday. The forum is attracting a constellation of officials of Arab public and private TV channels, as well as a number of Arab and Gulf ambassadors in Kuwait. The ASBU was launched in Khartoum in 1969 with a view to bolstering inter-Arab radio cooperation. - Kuna
