KUWAIT, May 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) is in the process of establishing a fresh veterinary and agriculture college, a PAAET official said here Saturday.
The move mainly aims to prop up the veterinary and agricultural sector as part of Kuwait's overall national development, Baheeja Behbehani, chairperson of a PAAET veterinary and farm development committee, said in a news release. Livestock and farming make up a key pillar of Kuwait's national economy and food security, she said, adding that the State has provided Kuwaiti citizens with farms and farmland at token prices with a view to creating a livestock industry. Subsidized fodder is also given to farmers in an effort to form a strong economy and livestock wealth that could lead to ensuring food sufficiency, she noted. Kuwait still heavily relies on importing to provide meat and livestock, and byproducts, the Kuwaiti official said. The new college will train agronomists, conduct scientific research and studies, offer services and counsel and hold training courses, Al-Bahbahani added. Most GCC member states have already established their respective agriculture and veterinary colleges with the goal of creating well-trained national farm cadres on scientific bases, she concluded. - Kuna
