Kuwait reviews projects on drought-tolerant trees, grains |

DAMASCUS: A Kuwaiti delegation to the Arab Center for the Study of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) was briefed on the field studies concerned with improving drought-tolerant crops.
The delegation representing Kuwaiti Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Recourses (PAAAFR) visited two of ACSAD's research stations located in Daara and used for improving the crops of drought-tolerant fruit trees and grains (wheat and barley). It also toured artificial insemination and embryo transfer labs, genetic improvement on sheep and goat breeds, forages unit, and a training center. PAAAFR's delegation held talks with ACSAD's Director General Rafiq Saleh on agreements regarding countering aridity, developing plants and animal resources, and those on aquariums and training. During the meeting grouping the delegation and Syrian Minister of Agriculture Fadil Safir, the Syrian official stressed deeply-rooted relations between the ministry and ASCAD. Safir also hailed Kuwait Fund for Arab and Economic Development for funding major economic project in Syria such as drawing waters of the Tigris to irrigate 180,000 acres at Al-Hasakah Governorate. - Kuwait Times
