Voluntary work is pillar of Kuwaiti culture -- KRCS chief |

PARIS, May 28 (KUNA) -- Voluntary work became a pillar of modern Kuwaiti culture, said Board Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Barjas Al-Barjas on Friday.
Kuwait has always been a pioneer in the domain regionally and internationally, Al-Barjas said on the sidelines of meeting Kuwaitis studying in France, held at the Kuwaiti Cultural Office. He called on students to take part in voluntary work inspired by the Islamic teachings and Kuwaiti traditions, adding that it helped in cultivating the skills of youth, boost their self-esteem in addition to achieving society's development. As for KRCS, it aims at alleviating the sufferings of people worldwide, he said, and noted that KRCS provided volunteers with first-aid and rescuing courses and assigned them to deliver aid in and outside Kuwait alongside visiting hospital patients. Meanwhile, Honorary Treasurer of KRCS Saad Al-Nahedh said that voluntary work reflected deep humanitarian feelings, displayed selfless and noble efforts directed towards installing amity in society. He said that voluntary work drew its importance from the fact that it helped in maintaining security and organizing different institutions. For KRCS to be assigned by Kuwaiti leadership to help ailing societies worldwide is an honorary mission to serve Kuwait and people in need, he added. Cultural Advisor at Kuwaiti Embassy in France Dr. Fayez Al-Kanderi, meanwhile, hailed KRCS's local and international role, adding that it was a bright aspect of Kuwait. Al-Barjas and Al-Nahedh honored Kuwaitis studying at France for their contributions in the domain of voluntary work. The two KRCS officials participated at the two-day Kuwaiti-French voluntary action forum, held in France under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah. They also participated in a photo gallery documenting Kuwaiti voluntary work organized by KRCS, the National Union of Kuwait Students, and Kuwait's Voluntary Work Center. - Kuna
