KUWAIT, May 30 (KUNA) -- The Department of Emergency Medical Services (DEMS) said on Sunday that its operations division receives 200 emergency calls on a daily basis
, and reaches the location of the reported incident or situation in 9 minutes in 92 percent of all cases. Head of the DEMS Faisal Al-Ghannam told KUNA that the department is constantly working to offer highest quality of rescue and emergency services and implementing the latest available techniques. The department's services cover the entire country, with a trained team and an advanced communications network, he added. Seven new emergency centers would operate soon, the official also revealed, in the areas of Jeleeb A-Shiaukh, Al-Rumaitheya, Al-Fhaheel, Al-Salmi, Al-Sabiya, Om-Alaish, and Kabd. He stressed that more centers would be opened in the future, in various areas of the country, and that the DEMS is working to train 10 percent of the Kuwaiti adult population by the end of 2010 on emergency care and first aid as part of a national project. New digital communications systems, and navigation systems for DEMS vehicles would be supplied soon, Al- Ghannam also noted. At least one person dies in Kuwait daily due to auto and motorcycle accidents, while three to four are injured in such incidents, according to official figures. - Kuna
