KUWAIT: As school students prepare themselves for final exams, parents are worry about their children's eating habits, sleep schedule and whether or not they are studying.
Kuwait Times interviewed some parents and students to talk about the period just before exams start. Abu Abd Al-Rahman, an engineer and father of two children said, "My son is starting his 12th grade year and his exams will be starting in a couple of days. My son is not taking advantage of the one week off the school gave him to study an d prepare for the exams. Instead, what he does is play Playstation all day, sleep, eat and watch movies all the time, as if he doesn't even have exams. I feel as though I am the one of who is going into the exams. I care more than he does. Whenever I ask him, he says he finished his studies while I was at work," Abu Abd Al-Rahman added. Mona Barak, a mother of three children in school, said, "I really suffer with my children. They are in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. My problem with my children is that everyone of them wants to study in a specific room. Every day I try to offer them the things they want, whether its silence, food, or a clean place. Students often have problems with their parents or older siblings, during their examination periods. Amer Adel, an 18-year-old, said, "what they don't know is that I really am studying while they are out of the house. When they come home, I sit with them, have my dinner and watch movies with them." "Here is the problem," Amer continued, "my parents tell me to go study, then they ask me if I finished and then they ask me how many pages are left. The questions don't stop at all! They are forcing me to study and they don't understand that I need to rest." Amer added that the arguments usually end with shouting, switching off the TV and being forced to study some more. Amer explained that it's hard to study when being forced because he needs time to relax before he can concentrate. "What makes me really sad," he added, "is that they do this every year, despite the fact that I keep passing. What are they worried about? - Kuwait Times
