KUWAIT CITY, June 11: Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Ricardo M. Endaya officiated Thursday Lulu Hypermarket’s launch of its week-long promotion of Philippine made products,
traditional cuisine and fresh fruits in celebration of the 112th Anniversary of Philippines Independence with Regional Manager of Lulu Hypermarket Mohammad Haries. In a brief speech, Endaya lauded Lulu Hypermarket and its officials for taking the initiative to host such prestigious event and the hypermarket for taking great interest in products and other consumer goods from the Philippines. Endaya also expressed his gratitude for the hypermarket chain’s continued trust in the capabilities of Filipino workers by providing employment for them in the hypermarket. Filipino Executive Chef of Lulu Louie said that the promotion has been carefully planned and prepared prior to its launch. Popular products and brands have been brought from the Philippines and are currently on sale in the hypermarket. He also added that freshly made Filipino delicacies will be prepared and sold daily during the promotion week and that throughout the year, specially packed cooked foods will be sold daily to cater to Filipino nationals as well as those who would wish to taste and try the dishes from other nationalities in Kuwait. The traditional foods are sold at very reasonable and affordable prices.
Endaya was welcomed by officials of the hypermarket and entertained with a traditional ethnic dance depicting Philippines’ culture and heritage performed by a select group of Filipino dancers. Haries later led a tour of the hypermarket and looked over the products on display as well as free food tasting. Endaya and Haries then cut the ceremonial cake as other officials of Lulu Hypermarket looked on. “We are very grateful to Lulu Hypermarket for organizing this remarkable event and we hope that such event will be held every year. The celebration of the Philippine independence in Kuwait this year is one of the best and unforgettable with a series of events having been lined-up to further promote not only our culture and products but other resources as well,” said Asian Cultural Network Project Adviser Geoffrey Adiong. The 112th Philippine Independence Day celebration in Kuwait kicked-off with the Philippine Job Fair 2010 held at Kuwait Hyatt Hotel last May. Kuwait Gulf Link has also organized a celebration on the occasion for its Filipino national staff at Kuwait Hilton Hotel and Resort. Al-Ghanim Electronics will be offering a special discount sale for Filipinos during the three-day celebration. Celebrations Saturday, June 12, 2010 will start with a flag raising ceremony at the Philippine Embassy led by the Philippine ambassador in cooperation with the Asian Cultural Network. A lunch for the distressed Filipino workers currently housed at the shelter will follow and a reception for owners of placement agencies, embassy and POLO staff, as well as invited guests will be held in the evening.
