KUWAIT: At least 93 percent students use their cell phones during lectures. Also, 81 percent of the youngsters use phones to send text messages or talk while driving, revealed a study carried out by the Statistics Department of the Kuwait University.
The study further revealed that using cell phones has become an addiction among youngsters which eats into large parts of their monthly budgets. This is especially the case among users of BlackBerry and iPhone devices. Statistics indicate that BlackBerry users spend an average of KD 56 a month, when compared to KD 42 spend by iPhone users. Users of other devices spend an average of KD 23 per month. The survey carried out on 500 KU students indicated that 40 percent own a BlackBerry device which is designed for use by businessmen. While 12 percent used the iPhone device, the Apple company's flagship handheld entertainment platform. Other brands which are popular among students are Nokia which is owned by 13 percent of the people, reported Al-Qabas. Furthermore, statistics revealed that BlackBerry phones are mostly used by women, at 71 percent. The iPhone is popular among 64 percent of users. In addition, it was discovered that 73 percent of surveyed students have Internet services embedded with their devices. It was led by BlackBerry users. - Kuwait Times
