KUWAIT: The cooperation between executive and legislative authorities on reducing unemployment to 3.61 percent is praiseworthy
, Assistant Secretary General of Kuwait's government manpower and Restructuring Program Fawzi Al-Majdli said here yesterday. Al-Majdli said in a statement that this percentage, the least in Kuwait's history, was achieved due to the concerted efforts of concerned state bodies represented by the Government's Restructuring Program, Civil Service Bureau and the Ministry of Social Affair s and Labor. He added that this percentage was posted on the 8th of this month according to the program's latest report on the unemployment ratio in Kuwait. This ratio reflects the huge number of national labor who joined the private sector amounting to more than 66,000 citizens in all institutions and factories of the private sector since the program took effect in 2001, Al-Majdli said, asserting that this ratio complies with the internationally scientific methods on jobless rate applied by International and Arab Labor organizations. Al-Majdli expressed his happiness over statistics and reports stating that jobless rate in Kuwait in on the decrease as of 2003 when it posted 7.1 percent, then it took a dive till it reached 3.6 percent this month, an excellent rate at Arab and international levels as the acceptable worldwide rate is four percent. He also said that unemployment ratio is one of the most accredited indicators by the ILO on measuring the jobless percentage, pointing out that the number of new employees usually differs from one time to another whether by augmentation or decrease and this is due to accepting new civil servants, introducing nominations by the restructuring program in the public sector or appointing new batches in the private sector. Al-Majdli pointed, in this regard, to the cooperation with the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) as one of the main sources of data and statistics on manpower with its beinnial report whether on Kuwaitis or foreign nationals. - Kuwait Times
