KUWAIT: Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh residents, a vast majority of whom are members of the Indian community, still suffer from programmed power cuts. Raju Zakariya, Coordinator of the Action Council of the Indian Community in Abbasiya told the Kuwait Times
, "We suffer from power outages for two to three hours. However, the Minister has said that the situation will be rectified in two days. We have been waiting and believe the Minister's words. The problem arose from new buildings that were constructed in the area. They use a lot of electricity. So, power consumption has been increasing in Jleeb, and the transformer exploded because of the heat and the load," Raju added. "Last day, we experienced power cuts for three to four times a day. It started at seven in the morning. It comes back after two hours, then is disrupted again at one in the afternoon. It is then restored in two hours, and so on," Raju complained. Raju explained the situation in the area. He said that most people escape by going to their friends' places, and stand outside buildings rather than stay indoors. Most people find respite in their cars by switching the air conditioning unit in them. Nurses who work at hospitals come back to homes that have no electricity supply. Also, children and new born babies cry all day because of bad weather and intermittent power supply. "Many government officials have been supporting us. They are trying to do their best. We can understand what has been happening because of hot weather. We trust in the minister's words. We are waiting for the promise he made to the Indian Ambassador to come true," Raju concluded. - Kuwait Times
