KUWAIT, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- A third Kuwaiti plane headed to Pakistan on Sunday with humanitarian aid for the victims of the floods, said Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS).
Head of KRCS's disasters department Yousef Al-Miraj said after the departure of the plane that rescuing the needy in Pakistan and around the world was a humanitarian duty. Preparations are ongoing to send another plane with aid to Pakistan in the next few days, he said. He emphasized that Kuwait supports the people and government of Pakistan in this difficult time and was keen on continuing sending urgent aid for the floods' victims. Right after the crisis caused by the floods began, Kuwait sent planes with food, medicine, and tents to the devastated areas in Pakistan, he noted. Meanwhile, EQUATE Petrochemical Company announced donating USD 100,000 for the victims of Pakistan's floods, through KRCS. Head of the company's government relations department Mohammad Ghareeb Hatim said in a press statement Sunday, after delivering the donation to KRCS Chairman Barjas Al-Barjas, that the society had expertise in delivering aid. He expressed hope that the donation would reduce the suffering of the victims of the floods which left many people missing and homeless. EQUATE is keen on supporting governmental efforts to deliver aid to the victims, he stressed. Since three weeks ago, Pakistan is facing the worst natural disaster in its history. The number of the victims of the floods in northwest Pakistan, Punjab, Sindh, and Baluchistan reached 20 million. - Kuna
