KUWAIT: The Civil Service Commission (CSC) is set to resume joint talks with the interior and education ministries regarding a project to extend working hours for employees in Kuwait's public sector
after discussions on the subject were suspended for almost eight months. The talks will focus on introducing a new working hours schedule, in which civil servants' working day would begin at 8:00 AM and finish at 3:00 PM, reported Al-Qabas. The CSC is working with the interior ministry to ensure that any such change would not result in major road congestion. The talks at the next meeting between the three bodies are also set to feature discussion of recommendations to extend school hours. The Ministry of Education (MoE) does not appear keen to introduce any major extension to the school day at this time, however, indicating that pupils and parents would find it easier to accept any such change if it were gradually phased in rather than suddenly imposed. The cabinet is reportedly keen to see civil servants' working hours extended, especially since many other nations within the GCC and across Arabia have adopted a similar approach. Ministers apparently see the successful introduction of longer working hours in the banking sector and in private sector firms as being a promising indication of how such a system can be positively implemented. - Kuwait Times
