KUWAIT, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- The United Nations (UN) is set to celebrate the 65th anniversary of its establishment on Sunday amid several accomplishments involving peacekeeping and international security
, fight against terrorism and disarmament. Since joining the UN in 1963, Kuwait has been keen on supporting the international organization's efforts and activities to achieve the world peoples' goals of establishing concepts of international cooperation and respect of international legitimacy, and of buttressing the principles of the UN Charter. In this context, Kuwaiti scholar Nada Al-Metawaa told KUNA that Kuwait is always keen on the platform of the UN General Assembly through its annual address (Kuwait Speech) by means of backing many issues, mainly required administrative reforms at international institutions and agencies. Kuwait always announces its commitment to the application of development diplomacy and assistance under all circumstances and conditions, she said. Kuwait deems the UN a platform for Kuwaiti-world relations, as the Gulf country is eager to carefully read all international indications and to determine its priorities in its foreign relations and relevant reflections on its positions and even its relations with friendly nations, she added. Through its UN membership, Kuwait has adopted the banners of development out of its belief in the significance of economic aid as a field for reinforcing international partnership, he said. She pointed to the historic role of the UN in the resolution of the crisis of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and then in shouldering responsibility for the case of prisoners of war (POWs), border security and compensations.
