Al-Ahmad said in a statement the afforestation comes within the government's efforts to apply the EPA recommendations of tackling the environmental situation in the southern region especially the issue of W. Shuaiba plants and the area of Ali Sabah Al-Salem (Umm Al-Haiman). Relevant authorities started the work last week, began soil reclamation and prepared detailed specifications for a tender of the afforestation of in an area of 100 meters width and six kilometers length. This step is taken by the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries (PAAAF), which would establish tree barriers in next five-months. Up to 100,000 tress will be planted and the site will be eventually converted into a public park for residents of nearby districts. The next stage of this project includes setting up water lakes and growing other plantations that will turn the area into an integrated recreational spot.
