Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) marked Wednesday the "Fireman Day" with a huge parade attended by officials and ordinary people.
In statements to (KUNA), KFSD Head Maj. Gen. Jassem Al-Mansouri said the celebration is meant to highlight the important role played by firemen in saving lives and raising public awareness about how to deal with fires. "So instead of inviting people to come to us, we decided to come to them and hold our celebrations among them in a crowded market," Al-Mansouri said. "We want to ask them to help us to avoid arsons and catastrophes," he added, noting human mistakes are behind 90 percent of the fire incidents. The event, held in crowded Al-Sharq market, included a parade for firemen from the Army, National Guards and Kuwait Petroleum Corporations. The firemen carried out rehearsals of their work to extinguish several kinds of fires. There was also a parade to the vehicles and tools used by firemen. The celebration was attended by KFS officials, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Roudhan Al-Roudhan and huge number of ordinary people. Al-Mansouri revealed that the KFSD has recorded 5680 fire incidents in Kuwait in 2010, down 15 percent of the incidents a year earlier. "The increasing awareness has played an important role in this decline," he concluded. - Kuna
