Acting Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr Mohammad Al-Afasi affirmed that the government is serious about cancelling the sponsorship system as well as the establishment of the proposed public authority for manpower
, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Al-Afasi said the government will not go back on the promise it made in front of the National Assembly and other international human rights organizations and “will soon refer the draft law regarding the establishment of the authority to the assembly.” He mentioned that the draft law, which is in its final phase and is being studied by legal authorities at the Fatwa and Legislation Department, will be completed within two weeks, and admitted that its submission was delayed due to his health problems. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior has urged all residence law violators to legalize their position or leave the country before the amnesty period ends on June 30th, and warned that those failing to do so will be fined, deported and will be barred from entering the country again, reports Al-Shahed daily. In a press statement, the ministry said we call on residence law violators of all nationalities to make use of the amnesty period and added that intense inspection campaigns would be launched across the country to arrest those who didn’t avail the offer. - Arabtimes
