KUWAIT, May 9 (KUNA) -- Fires afflicting different kinds of vehicles account for 30 percent of the total fire accidents that firefighters have to douse
, Majed Al-Otaibi, Director of Awareness and Public Relations Department of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) said here Monday. Al-Otaibi added, in a statement, that fires that break out at vehicles remarkably rise during summertime as a result of high temperatures, while the total fire accidents in the third quarter of 2010 came close to nearly 305, namely at a rate of four accidents per day with the exclusion of those caused by traffic. He also said that most causes of the fires are attributed to short circuits which account for more than 50 percent of the causes of all fires, making clear that bad spare parts constitute a main cause for vehicles'fires as well as oils leakage, particularly with high temperatures during summertime. Finally, Al-Otaibi called on motorists to check that their vehicles' spare parts are compatible with specifications, and are original and not fake ones along with making peridical check-up of their vehicles, checking the soundness of electric connections, the existence of no holes causing leakage, and keeping a fire extinguisher and knowing how to use it. - Kuna
