KUWAIT: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of Justice Dr. Mohammad Al-Afasi has issued a decree allowing domestic workers to convert their visas
to enable them to work in the private sector. The workers in question will be able to convert their visas between May 25 and August 31. In a statement issued yesterday, the ministry said that workers wishing to convert their visas must meet a number of eligibility criteria; amongst these, the worker's legal status must be legal, while the new jobs must be offered by the same employer or a first degree relative of theirs. The worker must also have been resident in Kuwait prior to May 2011 in order to be eligible. By introducing the new policy, the ministry aims to better serve employers' staffing requirements, its statement added. - KUNA
