KUWAIT: The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has introduced a number of amendments to the current employment laws in order to create public sector job opportunities for Kuwaitis.
One CSC insider said that the commission's new amendments aim to increase the percentage of Kuwaitis working in the public sector to 90 percent of the total workforce, with only 10 percent of expatriate employees allowed.
The ministerial council has reportedly rejected requests from some public sector bodies with separate budgets to be exempted from the new regulations, adding that all public sector bodies must comply with the rules and regulations on national labor.
The bodies which requested and were denied exemption were named by one insider as the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), the Kuwait Airways Corporation, the Kuwait Central Bank, the Public Institute For Social Security, Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Investment.
The insider said that all public sector bodies are compelled to employ the individuals put forward by the CSC, saying, "Each [public sector] organization will be obliged to employ the applicants they have requested from the commission.
The decision to amend the labor regulations was taken in order to increase the range of public sector employment opportunities available to Kuwaiti jobseekers, the insider explained, adding that it would provide better prospects for young Kuwaitis, especially in those state bodies with separate budgets. - Al-Anba
