KUWAIT: The Ministry of Education is studying various options to effectively implement the e-books projects announced by minister Ahmad Al-Mulaifi. The initative will be enforced next month.
The projects aims to provide students with flash memory cards that contain soft copies of their text books, with the aim of reducing load on students who have to carry text books every day.
According to officials, the step will be adopted after schools are provided with lockers where students can place their text books. In practice they will be allowed to use e-books and online versions that are uploaded at the ministry's website.
The decision is expected to be made official as soon as a draft project is referred to the Fatwa and Legislation Department, reported Al-Rai. In another development, the ministry has warned private schools that legal action will be taken in case tuition fees are hiked, violating the ministry's regulations.
Fahad Al-Ghais Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education commented on reports which suggested that some Arab schools are planning to increase fees for the 2011/2012 academic year by reiterating that any Arab school which enforces an arbitrary increase will be subject to punitive measures. - Kuwait Times
