KUWAIT CITY, July 13: Islamist MP Mohammed Hayef has submitted a draft bill on Wednesday in which he proposes that high quality Internet services be provided by the government to citizens and residents in Kuwait.
The bill stipulates an annual fee of not more than KD 20. In his explanatory note, Hayef said that Internet use does not conflict with Islamic laws and is a basic human right as it is a necessary method for economic development and the practice of freedom of opinion and expression. The Islamist MP said it is the government’s responsibility to sponsor freedom of communication and media.
Meanwhile, MP Ali Al-Deqbasi has forwarded a number of questions to the Minister of Interior, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Humoud, requesting information on domestic workers and visitors to the country. Al-Deqbasi said that recent years have witnessed a rise in fees paid by citizens who wish to bring domestic workers to Kuwait. He alleged that the request fees paid by sponsors have reached to KD 700 or more, which has become a burden on the citizen. Al-Deqbasi requested information on the number of domestic workers in the country and MoI regulations on request fees paid by sponsors in order to being the helpers from abroad. The MP also forwarded a number of questions on MoI procedures to prevent beggars from entering the country before the start of the holy month of Ramadan. He requested statistics on the number of people allowed to enter the country with visit visas since June. -Arab times
