Lecturers at the first forum for bloggers held in Kuwait called on the cyber activists to play a role in the development of the Kuwaiti society noting that young Kuwaitis favor the internet blogging
for the face-to-face conversations held at the traditional diwaniahs. Barakat Al-Wugayyan, an eminent media figure, affirmed significance of the conversations held among the bloggers on the internet as a speedy means of interaction, exchange of views and ideas. Rahaf Al-Enjeri, member of the steering committee of the forum and the public relations head of the gathering, indicated that many of the young Kuwaitis favor the "cyber diwaniah" for the face-to-face gathering, known as diwaniah, traditionally held on regular basis at night time by the natives of the country to talk about current issues and various affairs of common interest. Affirming that words are powerful, Al-Enjeri called on the bloggers to focus on constructive thoughts and conversations that could contribute to the development of the society and the country. Talal Al-Kheder, a blogger, noted that the cyber means proved to be quite helpful and effective in political and electoral campaigns, indicating that campaigners for establishing five electoral constituencies in the country had heavily depended on the high-speed electronic service to rally support for their slogans and goals. Fellow blogger, Abdullah Khalil, noted that blogging has become back-up for the media and journalism. Political activities in Arab countries have heavily used the internet, namely the blogging sites, in the recent campaigns, uprisings and demonstrations for reforms. The forum that got underway on Monday with participation of 200 bloggers grouped many media, social, political, educational and legal figures. - Kuna
