The US has removed Kuwait from the blacklist on controlling terrorism, reports Annahar daily quoting Social Affairs and Labor Ministry Undersecretary Mansour Al-Mansour.
In a recent press statement, Al-Mansour revealed the US Department of Treasury hailed Kuwait for its cooperation in following up financing terrorism cases. He said the ministry officials, in a previous meeting with a delegation from the US department, proposed the formation of a joint committee, consisting of representatives from the countries that provide and receive financial aid. He explained the committee will unify efforts and create a database to ease procedures for monitoring the movement of money from one country to another to eliminate the practice of financing terrorism.
Al-Mansour confirmed the meeting discussed the procedures the ministry has taken to organize charity work in Kuwait through a strong coordination with the concerned authorities to stop the financing of terrorist activities. He added the ministry has approved a system for following up all procedures, such as money transfers, with the help of its Foreign Affairs counterpart and the Kuwaiti embassies throughout the world. According to Al-Mansour, the American delegation has expressed fear that the financial aid granted to certain countries will fall into the wrong hands and will be used for terrorist activities. He affirmed Kuwait is keen on monitoring its overseas projects through regular visits to these countries to assess their projects and submit international reports in this regard. He stressed the positive feedback of the delegation is a clear manifestation that Kuwait is strictly complying with the law.
