The embassy of a specific African country in Kuwait has rented a house to provide shelter for its nationals absconding from their sponsors and residency law violators, reports Al-Jarida daily.
In a complaint to Interior Ministry officials, the daily said the house located in Al-Jabriya is kept by several guards, while the embassy has signed a contract with an agency to run it.
A citizen complained that he went to the embassy in question to process documents for his missing maid and he was told by embassy employees to go the house in question. Upon arrival, the man was surprised by the level of security at the place, as he was received by an Arab speaking person who said in a harsh tone he represented the embassy and that the complainant should not delay the maid’s paper procedure.
Meanwhile, the daily contacted a high-ranking official at the General Directorate for Immigration and the official-in-charge of domestic workers who confirmed the person’s account, indicating he already informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the situation, which he describes as ‘grave act’ and ‘violation of law’ by officials in that embassy. He also said it’s not the responsibility of embassies to shelter workers but the task of the state.
