A group of 11 Kuwaitis were saved by rescue teams after their speedboat was turned over by strong tides close to the island of Kubbar on Saturday.
A distress call was made to the Kuwait Fire Department marine rescue unit after it was revealed that the group was stranded at sea due to the weather conditions, the department said in a statement. Rescue teams from the Shuaiba office headed directly to the location, rescuing the stranded victims, who suffered from fatigue, and taking them to ambulances on-standby at Al-Kout harbor in Fahaheel. Head of the Fire Department's marine rescue unit, Col. Khaled Al-Mikrad paid a personal visit to the victims at the hospital where they were being treated, and the 11 men are in a good condition. Al-Mikrad urged sea-goers to make sure weather conditions are stable enough for sea travel ahead of any plans to do so, in addition to equipping their vessels with full safety measures like life jackets and marine navigators.
