Hundreds of Pakistani expatriates, most of them clad in their national dress, took part in the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Pakistan Embassy in Kuwait early Friday morning.
The flag-hoisting ceremony and the other celebrations were led by the new Pakistani Ambassador to Kuwait Iftekhar Aziz. After the flag-hoisting ceremony, the Ambassador addressed his compatriots. Earlier, in the Ambassador’s Message on the occasion of the Independence Day, Aziz said “62 years ago, on 14th Aug, the new sovereign state of Pakistan came into being, marking the fulfillment of the destiny of a Muslim nation in the subcontinent, which made great sacrifices to earn their homeland.
“On this day we celebrate the independence of our beloved country with joy and enthusiasm; the day also rekindles our spirit of patriotism and refreshes our memories of sacrifices made by our forefathers and our countrymen for our freedom. This day also puts in us a great sense of responsibility to demonstrate the spirit of brotherhood, peace, harmony and tolerance. We resolve to implement golden principles of the Father of the nation — faith, unity and discipline — in our lives. “Pakistan is bestowed with immense natural and human resources. Our manpower is versatile, hardworking, intelligent, and above all, know their jobs well. They are indeed second to none in the world. Pakistan is indeed a land of great potential, but to build it into a worthy Muslim nation, we shall require every ounce of our energy for its development.
“We, as a nation, are currently engaged in a resolute national effort to eliminate terrorism and militancy from Pakistan. Our valiant security forces and people have rendered enormous sacrifices in fighting this menace.” On Pakistan’s relations with Kuwait, Aziz stressed “Pakistan’s relations with brotherly country Kuwait are growing in all spheres. Our trade volume has grown to $3 billion. The historic visit of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to Pakistan in June 2006 provided us a framework to build on our relations.”
