People in Kuwait were able to view the total lunar eclipse without a telescope yesterday. This is the second lunar eclipse that is visible in Kuwait, while the first one occurred in the Hijri year 1433.
This year has been a special one owing to two visible lunar eclipses. During the past five years, there has been only one which was seen in Kuwait. "Next year, we won't be able to see any lunar or solar eclipses in Kuwait. Both lunar eclipses this year were total, and there was one solar eclipse that was seen in Kuwait this year," astronomer Khalid Al-Jamaan told the Kuwait Times. The other special thing about this lunar eclipse specifically, is that this is the first time after a really long time that the eclipse will be on during the Isha prayers. The eclipse started at 4:47 pm, which is three minutes before the Maghreb prayer and lasted till 7:18 pm. The middle of the eclipse was at 5:31 pm," added Al-Jamaan. As a part of the lunar eclipse phenomena, the moon was red in color and shades like pink and orange were seen during the shadow-stage. "The eclipse started partially and went on till it was complete. It started with the semi-shadow stage and then turned red. It entered the shadow of the earth completely, and faded before the total eclipse was visible," he further said. Astronomer Adel Al-Sadoun invited his guests to watch the lunar eclipse from his observatory in Fintas. He also noted that it was possible to watch this phenomenon without any special glasses and it's completely safe. "Viewing it without any protective glasses is safe and won't cause any damage to the eyes. There are rumors that it's dangerous, but nobody should worry," he said. Regarding the expected weather broadcast for this week, Mohammed Karam, Head of the Weather Broadcast Department, Civil Aviation stated that the weather will be colder during the coming days. "The temperature will reach a maximum of 16 degrees Celsius during the day, and about one or two degrees during the night in the desert areas. The wind will be North-West which brings lower temperatures and though the chances of rain are rare, the cold front will bring some clouds," he pointed out.
