The Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) is currently coordinating with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to ensure that all shops and companies importing taps abide by MEW’s stipulations and only stock taps
which have a built-in filter, reports Al-Jarida daily. The idea is to conserve water, said sources, adding MEW is diligently working on plans to conserve water consumption since Kuwait, like all other Gulf countries, suffers from shortage of potable water. In a separate development, Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Municipal Affairs Dr Fadhel Safar said the Jaber Bridge project is still being handled by the Central Tenders Committee (CTC) and State Audit Bureau and that there is no ambiguity on the issue. He made the comment at a ceremony held to honor the participants of a photography exhibition at the Jaber Bridge project headquarters. Safar said the Audit Bureau, after studying the project, raised two issues: the first was about an environmental study and the second was on allowing a large number of companies to bid for the tenders of the project. Safar said the ministry submitted a study conducted by Kuwait University and approved by the Environment Public Authority (EPA) to the bureau. However, the delay in floating the tender was due to CTC’s demand that the largest possible number of contractors and companies be allowed to participate in the bidding process, he added.
