The Health Ministry reported the fifth death from swine flu as a nineـyearـ old boy who was also suffering from chronic respiratory and chest ailments succumbed to the disease.
Ministry Spokesman Dr. Yousef AlـNisf told KUNA the boy had been in a critical condition due to chronic infections of the chest and later contracted the flu. The patient had been hospitalized since Aug. 22, in the Intensive Care Unit, but his health deteriorated further until he passed away late last night. "Most swine flu cases in the country have recovered," he noted, "and all the reported deaths were of people who were already suffering from serious and chronic ailments before contracting the swine flu virus." So far, the recovery rate of swine flu in Kuwait stands at 99 percent and reported cases are far lesser than those reported internationally as most of the cases have been categorized as ''mild.'' The categories that are most susceptible to the swine flu virus are children below five, pregnant women, and those with chronic ailments such as diabetes, asthma, and those with weak immune systems.
