The committee tasked with removing violations and unlicensed use of state property bans all types of advertisements unless they receive clear licenses from the Municipality, an official stressed anew on Sunday.
Member of the committee, Mohammad Al-Mosawi, said that some vendors choosing to advertise are ignorant of advertisement regulations and prior conditions before hoisting up their signs. The billboards are aimed at notifying people of promotions and products and projects and anyone practicing a handicraft or business activity should place a billboard at the entrance of the establishment to define its activity. The Municipality authorizes the advertisements after receiving official documents which state the approval of the authorities concerned and after fees are paid, Al-Mosawi explained. The advertisement license should include the commercial name, activity, type, location, and duration, he added. The committee bans hoisting billboards on buildings, street signs, traffic lights, trees, and government establishments, he said. The Municipality also bans advertising for certain products such as cigarettes and tobacco, medical or herbal drugs, food, and equipment that may affect human health and wellbeing without proper specialist supervision. The Municipality authorizes advertisements if they are written in Arabic with a possible English match, he added. One should take into account the overlook of the building, street, and area when the advertisement is hoisted. The ads should not block the emergency exits, ventilation vents, light sources, and above all, should not cause harm to passersby or neighbors. There are prior conditions before erecting signs alerting the public of address, occasions, activities or commercial, Al-Mosawi said. The Municipality and the committee are authorized to remove unlicensed ads without a prior notice or accountability for damage caused as a result of the removal.
