The country is witnessing a spate of sewage overflows in several areas, such as Rehab, Jleeb AlـShuyoukh, and Shuwaikh.
This is still occurring at a time when the Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Fadhil Safar announced that the Mishref pumps would be repaired soon and that attempts were ongoing to operate at least three units at the Mishref station to transfer sewage to the Ardiya pumping station. Ministry officials said that such overflows occurred because the Ardiya station could not handle any additional sewage from Mishref. Moreover, a citizen filed a lawsuit against the prime minister, undersecretaries of ministries of Public Works, Electricity and Water, and Health, in addition to Kuwait Municipality and the Public Environment Authority, and held them responsible for the Mishref disaster. Another citizen called for referring the public works minister to the Ministerial Court, since he was responsible for the Mishref catastrophe. Many people living in Ardiya and neighboring areas have expressed their alarm over the health hazards that they might have to suffer from. MPs have also started collecting signatures to propose the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee to investigate the Mishref sewage breakdown, in addition to the technical remarks regarding the station.
