Flight ACـ860 going transiting through London from Canada on August 15 was saved from a hijacking attempt by Kuwaiti student Deidan AlـShemmari. Al Watan interviewed Deidan to hear out the details of the terrorist act and his heroic act to halt the hijacking. The following are excerpts from the interview: Tell us about the incident. AlـShemmari: During my flight from Canada to London, I heard the captain anxiously calling his crew to the middle of the plane. A tall man appeared and walked down the aisle to where my mother and I were seated. This man grabbed me by the neck and put a device on my chest, yelling to everyone not to move, or else he would blow up the plane. The 210 passengers became hysterical, and the hijacker asked them to go to the front of the plane, while he kept my mother and I at the back. The crew approached the man and tried to calm him down in vain. The hijacker ordered me to stand and I complied, since I knew that death was so close to me. Suddenly, I got into a fistfight with the hijacker and managed to knock him to the floor, where other passengers assisted me in keeping him down, while a flight attendant brought handcuffs to restrain the man.
