The World Health Organization (WHO) called Tuesday on citizens and residents in the country to cooperate with the Ministry of Health and avoid crowded places if necessary.
Visiting WHO's Regional Director for the Office of Eastern Mediterranean Region, Dr. Hussein Al-Jazaeri assured, in a press release, citizens and residents that the health situation in the country does not call for any concern. Al-Jazaeri said that each country is vulnerable to the epidemic of swine flu, noting that there are some false perception among many regarding the prevention of disease, calling all to exert efforts and cooperate with health officials. Regarding the postponement of the academic school year, the Director said the postponement will not solve the problem, pointing out that the situation in the country reached its peak and then declined, a matter that is seen in the decrease in the number of people living with the disease, pointing to the lack of precautionary measures to prevent the disease completely. Al-Jazaeri also expressed hope for the arrival of vaccines during the fall season, which is when humans are more likely to have respiratory infections, influenza and therefore might also carry the swine flu disease. The WHO official also called to adhere to guidelines by the health ministry to reduce the spread of the disease, stressing the need to for a regular hand washing, covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, in addition to consulting a physician when experiencing symptoms of influenza.
