The Ministry of Interior announced that it has put in place all the necessary security measures required for the last ten days of Ramadan and Eid.
Director of the ministry''s security media department and spokesman, Col. Mohammad AlـSaber, said in a press release on Sunday that "all preparations are in place, based on the orders of the Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Sheikh Jaber AlـKhaled AlـSabah." He noted that Interior Undersecretary Lt. Gen. Ahmad AlـRujaib was closely following up on the matter, in order to guarantee that nothing would disrupt the people''s religious and spiritual festivities. The overall plan incorporates security, monitoring, and guaranteeing the smooth flow of traffic, he explained, while noting that "traffic congestions were expected given the fact that there were 1.4 million registered vehicles, most of which will head to the streets soon after iftar (fastـbreaking meal at sunset). "Police and traffic patrols will be deployed on the streets to help overcome this matter," he noted and added that this would coincide with media awareness bulletins that will be issued in coordination with the ministry''s security media department. Moreover, AlـSaber said that ''Qiyyam'' prayers that are performed late at night during the last ten days of Ramadan, "required the deployment of civil defense personnel as well, in order to assist the elderly and those with special needs who visit mosques to perform this religious ritual." Security authorities are also working hard to eliminate beggars from the streets, he said, while warning people against thieves and calling on them not to leave valuables in cars while going to pray or to shop.
