The Department of Naturalization is reportedly preparing to summon the seven Kuwaiti citizens who recently received Egyptian citizenship from the Egyptian Ministry of Interior in order to force them to choose between their Kuwaiti and Egyptian citizenship, since dual citizenship is not allowed under Kuwaiti law. The department has collected all the necessary documents proving that Egyptian citizenship was granted to the family members prior to summoning them in accordance with Kuwaiti citizenship legislation. Egyptian interior minister Habib Al-Adeli had issued a directive granting Egyptian citizenship to the seven members of the family, who have a Kuwaiti father and an Egyptian mother, in accordance with Egypt's citizenship law, reported Al-Rai. The family members who gained Egyptian citizenship as a result of the recent move have been named as Abdurrahman Aram Futaim Afar Al-Otaibi and his siblings Abdulkarim, Abdulaziz, Ali, Sara, Ibtisam and Amal.
