The Pigeons Square in the Mirqab area located in the center of Kuwait City has become a playground for children and their parents before iftar time
ـ the Muslim fastـbreaking time. Children who are fond of the various breeds of pigeons with eyeـcatching colorful feathers buy birdfeed that small grocery shops located along the square sell. Abdullah AlـJassem, one of the regulars at the square told KUNA that he is keen on visiting the square with his children to feed the pigeons in the afternoons during the holy month of Ramadan. He said that this beautiful place where hundreds of birds gather should be beautified to resemble European squares like London''s Trafalgar Square. "This fascinating scenery comes with a price he said, as it costly to clean up the litter from the streets that the pigeons leave behind," adding that it can "even block the sanitary systems in buildings located around the square." "Kuwaitis have always raised pigeons on the rooftops of their houses as a hobby," he noted. "The pigeons'' gathering at the square has helped increase business in groceries that are located near the square," grocery owner Mohammad Arshad said. He said that pigeons are used to being around people who constantly feed them at the square whereas some children and youth attack pigeons and disturb their peace. Arshad said, "in order to turn this area into a touristـattraction zone, coffee shops and restaurants should be constructed along the square.
