MP Adnan Al-Mutawwa has called for quick approval of a proposal to increase the salaries, allowances and bonuses of nurses in accordance with their job titles . Emphasizing the need to take into consideration the risky and difficult nature of jobs in the medical field, Al-Mutawwa said “the concerned officials should immediately approve the proposed increment for these professionals as they are the frontliners in any emergency situation like the swine flu epidemic.” He pointed out the need to increase the salaries, allowances and bonuses of nurses at the Ministry of Health (MoH), considering the proposed increment for doctors and technicians has been approved long time ago. He added technical committees tasked to study the proposed salary increment for nurses had earlier forwarded their recommendations to the Civil Service Commission (CSC), yet no concrete step has been taken in this regard until now. Al-Mutawwa argued health institutions in developed countries are keen on addressing the problems of nurses due to their important role in society, but this is not the case in Kuwait as the nursing profession here does not get the respect it deserves in spite of the fact that any medical procedure cannot be completed without the nurses. In another parliamentary development, MP Dr Badi Al-Dosari has stressed the need for cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities to settle issues related to the loans of citizens. He appealed to both authorities to end the suffering of citizens as the problem has become more complicated. Al-Dosari lamented it is disheartening to see the miserable condition of some Kuwaitis due to their accumulated loans and interests. He affirmed MPs are bent on finding suitable and comprehensive solutions to ease the financial burdens of these citizens. He urged the government to finalize this issue in accordance with the recommendations of HH the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah by increasing the capital of the Fund for the Needy as per the proposal of the Parliament. He reiterated the importance of coordination between the two authorities to come up with a radical solution to help not only the citizens but also the expatriates engulfed in accumulated loans. Indicating this issue will be solved only if the government takes a decision to end the suffering of Kuwaitis, Al-Dosari stated the Parliament has presented some amendments to the proposal and the government should do its part by finalizing the issue.
