The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Mohammed Al-Kandari announced that formalities have been completed
by some charitable societies to collect donations, and a committee has been formed by the Ministry to monitor the activities of these societies and check for violations, reports Al-Anba daily. Al-Kandari made this statement during the annual Ramadan Ghabqa at the Scientific Club Thursday evening. He said legal action would be taken against any societies that broke rules and took advantage of the donors. Al-Kandari also commented on the sponsorship system, saying the first step to providing an alternative for the system was epitomized in the cancellation of the condition that requires the approval of a sponsor for the transfer of residence. He added another motion was being discussed to provide a residence permit without a sponsor for those expatriates who are self-employed. Al-Kandari said this move was initially approved 40 years ago, adding that this step will would help in improving Kuwait’s image over the issue of handling cases related to human rights. On the other hand, Al-Kandari thanked the officials at the Scientific Club for the annual function organized during the Holy month of Ramadan. He spoke about the need to establish a branch of the club in each governorate. He said this would encourage youth from all over the country to take an interest in scientific activities as youngsters from the Club have won several awards for their achievements at international contests.
