MP Naji Al-Abdulhadi has asked the Ministry of Health (MoH) to establish clinics in schools across the country to provide the necessary and emergency health services to students, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Affirming that he has submitted his proposal to National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi, Al-Abdulhadi argued the Constitution mandates the government to bear the expenses for providing health facilities to all sectors. “Students constitute a large part of the Kuwaiti society and they are the future of the country. They spend more time in school than at home, so it is incumbent upon the government to provide students with the best health services,” he added. Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mudhi Al-Humoud confirmed her ministry strictly complies with the guidelines set by its health counterpart, as well as the directives of the American Center for Disease Control and World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent further spread of swine flu, reports Arrouiah daily. Al-Humoud said members of the emergency team in her ministry are closely coordinating with their health counterpart to study the swine flu cases and lay down a clear mechanism to contain the virus. She went on to say “if two students get infected with swine flu in a class, the entire class will be closed for a week and all the students will be vaccinated. In case more students get infected, the whole school will be closed and the entire student population will be vaccinated.” She confirmed the ministry is fully capable of facing the epidemic and implement measures approved by international organizations. In other parliamentary developments, the MPs called for intensive investigations on the causes of the Mishref sewage plant disaster. Parliamentary sources say the MPs stressed the need to establish a ministry for environment, which will be in charge of environmental issues. They pointed out “the Mishref sewage plant fiasco indicates the necessity of such a ministry.” On the other hand, MP Saadoun Hammad asked Minister of Information and Oil Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to look into allegations that Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has been stealing oil from Al-Shuaiba Refinery. He asserted “oil is Kuwait’s major source of income, so the concerned authorities must quickly take the necessary steps to protect public money.” He wants to know when the alleged stealing started, in addition to the quantity and kind of oil that was stolen. Moreover, Rapporteur of Housing Affairs Committee at the Parliament MP Naji Al-Abdulhadi revealed the government has agreed to establish a housing fund for widows and divorced Kuwaiti women with a capital of KD 100 million, reports Al-Rai daily. Stating the fund will be announced by the end of this year, Al-Abdulhadi clarified the amount that will be given to divorced Kuwaiti women and widows has yet to be specified, but there is a project in the pipeline to provide them with housing care services.
