Kuwait Fire Brigades Deputy Director for Firefighting and Human Resources Development Brigadier Yousef AlـAnsari said "most scrap yard fires
were due to incompatibility of usage and the nature of allotted space." The official told Kuwait news agency ( KUNA): "Failure to satisfy regulations and issue permits from the department is behind most fires where workers handle and store hazardous substances which are both hard to defuse in case of fire and harmful in case of improper handling and storage." AlـAnsari hailed the decision of the Ministers'' Council on the establishment of alternative areas to meet all the requirements of craft and industry installations and government agencies where safety of both workers and the environment would be protected. AlـAnsari pointed out to several meetings held by lawmakers to give effect to the decisions and laws in this regard and to develop future solutions in order to reduce frequency of fires. The official also said "there are frequent inspections on all lots in the scrap yard area to make sure specifications and safety measures are met." Three fires were reported so far into the month of Ramadan which caused both human and material losses
