| Calls to halt fingerprint system |

Chairperson of the Government Sector Workers Union Bader Al-Baryouj says the union is calling for suspension of the fingerprints attendance system to help eliminate the H1N1 swine flu epidemic, reports Al-Seyassah daily. He explained several workers gathering in the morning and afternoon for the fingerprint attendance daily will contribute to spread of the disease. In a press release, Al-Baryouj stressed a number of employees working at the ministries have asthma and other allergies, which may facilitate complications and death with swine flu infection. He indicated pregnant women have weak resistance to the disease. “We are more cautious about the health of employees, as we must try to avoid crowd and gathering in this period, until the disease is eliminated,” Al-Barjouj added. He reiterated the union has sent letters to several ministers explaining the rate of spread of the disease among employees who are in direct contact with visitors. The union recommended the fingerprint attendance system be replaced with signature system to avoid crowding at the departments.
