On the occasion of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of China, the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL)
in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait will host a photo exhibition of China which was launched on Tuesday and it will last till the end of Ramadan. The event will be held at the Museum of Modern Arts. The cultural relations between the two countries is special and is strengthened by the bilateral treaties. Also, exhibitions are exchanged, festivals, publications and all cultural activities will e held during the entire year long. It will present a complete panoramic view of the cultural and artistic feats achieved by this sizeable country. The exhibited photos also show the developments that have shaped the modern country. Six decades ago, the Chinese people held a long and bloody struggle to achieve national independence and liberation. "A new China was established, with the people in charge. From 1949 through 1978, China built a system of socialism. This period saw societal transformation that is unprecedented in history, as well as monumental achievements in national construction. Since 1978, 1.3 billion Chinese people have been traveling the broad highway of reform and opening the world, reinvigorating and illuminating every corner of the land," said Huang Jiemin, the Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait in his welcome speech at the exhibition's opening ceremony. China has changed rapidly in different fields. "Over the last thirty years, China has undergone a transformation from a highly centralized planned economy to a vital and successful socialist market economy. The standard of the Chinese people has risen from bare subsistence to one of moderate prosperity. Material conditions and attitudes have undergone tremendous changes, deeply influencing and altering the lifestyles of the Chinese people," he added. This exhibition celebrates the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, offering an overview of instances that have influenced the modern Chinese lifestyle. The visitor will find photos of the proclamation of the founding from October 1, 1949, photos of the agriculture and buildings in China expressing the Household Responsibility System instituted in 1978, the Chinese astronauts training in a re-entry capsule, the West-East Gas Pipeline from February 2000, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway (the world highest altitude railway), the Hangzhou-Beijing Grand Canal, Pudong New Area of Shanghai, and many other photos of Chinese people in different fields and places.
