Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Moudhi Al-Humoud, announced that two of the three local English school pupils diagnosed
with swine flu have completely recovered and returned to their classes, while the treatment of the third pupil is going well. Al-Humoud made her announcement in a press statement, in which she added that the Ministry of Education (MoE) has equipped Kuwait's schools with around one million booklets and awareness posters as part of its plan to spread awareness regarding the precautionary measures being taken against the spread of the virus. Al-Humoud also revealed that the ministry has taken several precautionary steps, including assigning teachers to tour classrooms, canceling all classes in which a number of classes are merged, postponing all school trips and instructing students not to use school buses and public transport. Deputy Assistant Minister for Public Education Muna Al-Lughani revealed that the MoE is planning to introduce additional extra-curricular classes for pupils who miss classes due to school closures or to absence while receiving treatment for the H1N1 virus, in addition to those with any other officially endorsed reasons for absence. Meanwhile, a Jahra educational directorate official indicated that a member of the teaching staff there had been infected with the H1N1 virus, reported Al-Qabas. Humaid Khalaf, the head of the Jahra Boys' Secondary School, said that the infected teacher, who works at the same school, had been infected off campus, as he had been on leave since last Thursday and was infected during this period of absence. The school head added that the teacher had contacted the school in order to inform them about his infect ion as soon as his test results came back positive, meaning that no precautionary procedures needed to be taken at the school since the infected teacher had not been present there to pass the infection on to his colleagues.
