Kuwait University (KU) said Thursday that statistics showed that enrollment this school term is much higher than the previous year
, with 25,627 seats added on the first three days of registration, compared to 19,470 seats added during the same period in 2008. KU''s Assistant Director of the Public Relations and Media Department Monqith AlـFuraih said in a press release that the Admission and Registration Department organized the registration of students at the registration hall. He said that the hall had a capacity of about 50 students per day. The admission of a large number of students in 2008 and 2009 increased registration problems, as KU''s infrastructure is not suitable for the large number of students, he added. He pointed out that the total number of KU students is about 28,000, a figure that reflects the suffering of colleges with the shortage in human resources and buildings. "There is a need to consider raising the GPA required for acceptance into KU, and reducing the number of students accepted in the government university," he noted. He said KU is facing major challenge in providing classes, adding that the university is making every effort to deal with the acceptance of the massive numbers of students.ـ
